A meaningful media literacy lesson in a civics class

On February 21, 2025, a student of the SOI-41 group of the specialty 014 Secondary Education (History) of the Bachelor’s degree program, Nataliya Shepitak, as part of her production pedagogical practice in secondary education institutions based on the Catholic Lyceum of Basil the Great, conducted an interesting and meaningful civic education lesson for 10th grade students. The lesson, which belongs to the cycle of social science disciplines, was dedicated to the topic “Communication, Information, Media”.

During the lesson, the students analyzed Taras Shevchenko’s painting “Kateryna” as an example of a media text, studied the types of media and their features. They also discussed the role of advertising, its impact on society, and methods of presenting information. The lesson aroused the interest of students and contributed to the development of critical thinking and media literacy.
