Today, the university was visited by Yaroslav Yatskiv, a world-renowned scientist in the field of astronomy, space geodynamics and space research, a member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association, Director of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Honorary Doctor of the Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University.
He met with professors and teachers of the physics, engineering and natural science blocks of the university, as well as the leadership led by the acting rector Igor Tsependa and member of the Supervisory Board Yana Stadilna.
The scientist gave a lecture in which he focused on the history, current state and prospects for the development of astronomy in Ukraine. Yaroslav Yatskiv spoke about the main astronomical observatories of our country, briefly described each of them, focusing separately on their scientific potential and unique research.
“International cooperation is very important in the first place, and it is also necessary to correctly determine priorities at the national level,” Yaroslav Yatskiv emphasized.
Special attention during the discussion was paid to future scientific research and development of the observatory on Mount Pip Ivan. Both existing problematic issues that need to be resolved and the strengths of this scientific facility, which open up broad prospects for domestic science, were outlined.
In conclusion, the acting rector of the KNUVS Ihor Tsependa emphasized that such meetings contribute to the formation of a scientific worldview of young people, in particular scientists, motivate them to their own research and open up new horizons of cooperation between the university and leading scientific institutions of Ukraine and the world.
The guest handed over two copies of the fundamental scientific publication – “Encyclopedia of Trypillian Civilization” to the university library.
